Competitor teardown: Jolly CBD dog treats

Research date: 2026-11-05. The only brand selling CBD dog treats under the name "Jolly" is Jolly Cannabis (jolly-cannabis.com), a hemp THC/CBD brand based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Massachusetts connection is the contract manufacturer, not the brand. Everything below is Jolly Cannabis.

  • Price per mg CBD: $0.10. Price per treat: $1.00.
  • Sizing: one pouch for all dogs. Dosing tab: under 25 lb 1–2 treats, 26–75 lb 2–5 treats, over 75 lb 5–7 treats, every 12 hours. A 75+ lb dog eats 10–14 treats a day, so a $29.99 bag lasts 2–3 days. The only review says exactly this: "Not enough in the package… way expensive."
  • Ingredients: hemp-derived CBD and CBG oil, MCT oil, wheat flour, whole egg, peanut butter, dried bakery product, canola oil, vegetable glycerin (misspelled on the page), blueberry pomace, natural blueberry flavor, lactic acid, mixed tocopherols. Baked bone, not a soft chew. Contains wheat and egg.
  • Copy errors: the Sleepy page lists CBG oil instead of CBN; the safety line says "keep out of reach of children and pets" on a pet product; texture disclaimer says treats "may be soft or hard depending on the climate."
  • No cat line, no tincture, no hip and joint, no multipack, no subscription.

Packaging

Two pouch designs exist. Design A (on the brand site, image files updated May 2026, likely current): matte stand-up pouch, tear notch, zipper. Full-height dark center panel flanked by two colored side stripes with a white keyline. Top right: white rounded tab with the blend name in small bold caps and an icon (cloud for Sleepy, peace sign for Uplifting). Centered white stack: "JOLLY" high-contrast serif wordmark, "JAM BUTTER" bold sans caps, pill-outlined "CBD+CBN", "DOG TREATS", two italic mg lines. Lower half: large white stencil dog portrait (Australian shepherd for Sleepy, Yorkie for Uplifting). Bottom pill: "30 Treats / Net Weight: 2oz (58.5g)".

  • Sleepy: deep plum body (about #3A1536) with sky-blue side panels (about #A8D3EF).
  • Uplifting: forest green body (about #1C3A1E) with lilac side panels (about #D8B6DE).
  • Badges on the front: none. No lab-tested, no QR to a certificate of analysis, no NASC, no made-in-USA, no THC statement, no vet-formulated. COAs sit in a Google Drive media kit, not on the product page.
  • Back panel: never photographed online. Not found.

Design B (photographed on a Texas retailer listing, July 2026, probably the earlier run): tan kraft pouch with an all-over scatter of hemp leaves, paw prints, bone biscuits and a cartoon sleepy dog with "ZZZ".

Branding

  • Site palette is loud and multi-color: dark green #002B16, lime #7BB73D / #8FCE00, pink #F21194, bubblegum #FF8FD5, navy #010432, deep purple #18053E, yellow #FDFF94, red #CE0E0E, sky #98D3F3, off-white #F1F0ED.
  • Type: Archivo Black headings, Helvetica body, everything in caps. Pack wordmark is a Bodoni-style serif.
  • No mascot. Brand imagery is playing cards, skate decks, stickers, "High Standards" hats.

Distribution

  • Store locator lists about 1,025 unique stores across all Jolly products (not treat-specific). By state: MI 205, TX 120, FL 94, GA 82, CA 73, AZ 62, NC 46, OH 45. Massachusetts: 0. CT 2, NH 3, ME about 4.
  • Named chains: Wild Side (112), Cloud 9 Smoke and Vape (49), Head Hunters Smoke Shop (20), Puff Super Value (17), Nothin' Butt Smokes (15), Smoke Rings (12). The channel is almost entirely smoke, vape and hemp shops.
  • Distributors: Valley Distro, Natural Aid Distributors ($36.99 list). Wholesale pricing and MOQ not published.
  • Not on Faire, Amazon or Chewy. Ships DTC with 21+ gating and adult-signature delivery (the review complains about it).
  • Store-wide rating 4.2 / 5 from 78 reviews; the treats have one review in 22 months.

The openings Bagel & Butters takes

  1. Size by dog weight. Jolly's only review is a large-dog owner complaining the bag is too small and too expensive. Three sizes with one chew a day answers it directly.
  2. A real functional range. Jolly has sleepy and uplifting only. Chill, Mobility and Daily cover calm, joints and everyday wellness.
  3. Trust marks on the front of the pack. Lab-tested with a QR to the batch COA, non-detectable THC, Made in USA, and the NASC seal once the audit passes. Jolly has none.
  4. Clean label math. Jolly's pouch claims don't add up and its copy has errors. Accuracy is a credibility edge with pet-store buyers.
  5. Pet-specialty channel. Jolly lives in smoke shops. Pet boutiques, feed stores, groomers and Chewy are open and unreached, and pet parents who would never enter a vape shop are the bigger market.
  6. Soft chew, not a baked bone, with consistent texture; no climate disclaimer.
  7. No 21+ gate or signature delivery on a non-intoxicating product.
  8. Zero New England presence for Jolly. Note that Massachusetts retail is closed to both brands (see the compliance doc), so the New England play is NH, CT, RI, VT and ME.
