What's actually in the competition's chews
Research date: 2026-11-05. Read from brand product pages, supplement-facts panels and published COAs; retailer listings only where the brand hides the panel. "n/d" = not disclosed. Price per mg is on labeled CBD (or CBD+CBDA where that is how the label states it).
The short version
- Only one brand has science behind its ratio: ElleVet (CBD+CBDA, about 1:1 nominal, Cornell trials, full-panel COAs). Its lot COA actually runs CBDA-heavy at 1.66:1 and carries incidental CBC, CBGA, CBG and CBN. Austin & Kat is the only other brand that puts a CBDA number on the label (2.5:1).
- Most of the market is 5 mg CBD plus botanicals, undisclosed minors, no COA for minors. Pet Releaf claims CBC and CBG on the label; its COAs say non-detect.
- CBN chews exist but every one is a single strength: Jolly 10:2, Daily Pet Co and NuLeaf 2:1, Neurogan CBN-forward. None is sized by dog weight.
- CBG chews are rare: High Falls 5:5 (joint), Jolly 10:2 (mood), Super Snouts (mg undisclosed). No mainstream daily-wellness CBG chew. All use neutral CBG, which the canine data say is barely absorbed.
- Nobody uses CBGA or CBC on purpose. They appear only as trace analytes.
- Premium brands do not charge more per mg. ElleVet is $0.08–0.11 per mg, Austin & Kat $0.11–0.12, Jolly and Medterra $0.10, while commodity brands run $0.19–0.33. The premium is captured by more mg per chew and a ratio or clinical story, at $1.00–1.67 per chew. Market-clearing retail for a 30-count functional chew with a declared minor cannabinoid is $30–35; $45–50 is the ceiling.

- CBD:CBDA: 1:1 (ElleVet, nominal), 2.5:1 (Austin & Kat), 5:1 incidental (Charlotte's Web). Everyone else: absent or undisclosed.
- CBD:CBN: 5:1 (Jolly, Bee Active), 2:1 (Daily Pet Co, NuLeaf), CBN-forward (Neurogan; Earth Buddy oil 1:4). Undisclosed (Kradle, Peak).
- CBD:CBG: 1:1 (High Falls), 2:1 (Daily Pet Co), 5:1 (Jolly), CBG-only (Super Snouts, ElleVet dental sticks, HolistaPet oil).
- CBD-only tiers: 2–3 mg (Joy, Suzie's, Charlotte's Web, Pet Releaf small), 5 mg (the modal dose), 10 mg (Medterra, Lazarus, Jolly), 14–20 mg (Austin & Kat, HolistaPet high, Paw), 40–46 mg (Lazarus joint, ElleVet Calm & Comfort). Only HolistaPet, Austin & Kat, Green Coast and Pet Releaf tier strength by dog size.
Co-active patterns (typical mg per chew)
- Calm: chamomile 13–125, L-tryptophan 10–93, L-theanine 12–61, passionflower 25–125, valerian 25–45, ashwagandha 18–25 mg withanolides, melatonin 0.5 or undisclosed. The modal triad is chamomile + tryptophan + theanine. Nobody uses alpha-casozepine, the one botanical with a canine CBD-blend trial.
- Joint: glucosamine HCl 42–510, chondroitin 30–300, MSM 200–300, turmeric or curcumin 6–120, Boswellia 20 or undisclosed, green-lipped mussel 75–300, hyaluronic acid 10–25, salmon oil 100–245. Nobody uses UC-II collagen, which has the better canine trials for a chew-sized dose.
- Daily: CBD alone, or CBD + turmeric + omega-3, or CBD/CBG + mushrooms. Hemp seed powder is used as a filler "hemp element."
- Carriers: MCT or coconut dominates; ElleVet uses a lecithin base (improves CBDA retention in dogs); salmon oil doubles as a functional carrier; several brands use water-soluble or nano powders.
Gaps Bagel & Butters can own
- A CBD+CBDA line in three sizes. Only ElleVet and Austin & Kat declare CBDA; neither sizes by dog weight; ElleVet is $89 a bag.
- A CBGA daily chew. Nobody uses the acid form the canine PK says is the absorbed one.
- Full-panel COAs on every lot, like Charlotte's Web and ElleVet, when most of the category discloses nothing about minors.
- UC-II and alpha-casozepine, the two co-actives with the best canine evidence per milligram, which nobody in the category uses.
- A 1-chew-a-day system at $30–45 while ElleVet charges $89 for its science.
